About Diane Sheya Flavor and fragrance! Cooking with herbs freshly cut from my culinary garden is one of life’s most satisfying experiences. The sheer pleasure of taste is reason enough to use herbs, however, their delights go beyond the flavors they lend to food. The simple joy of handling fresh herbs, with fragrance filling the air, connect me to each herb. It excites me to introduce herbs to my culinary students, both in the garden and in the kitchen, and show them all the aspects of using herbs in their everyday cooking. I challenge them to be brave and experiment! It takes time to learn what a certain herb looks like, tastes like, how it will combine with other ingredients and how it changes with cooking. That comes with experience! My beginnings into the world of all things culinary came through the gourmet cooking club my husband and I have been part of since 1986. Through the years, culinary herbs began changing from using dried to fresh, and the freshest was straight from the garden. So my career path began as my passion for cooking combined with my newly found love of culinary herbs! Ivy House Herbs began in 1999 as a partnership with Chris Herron. We taught classes about cooking with fresh herbs and educated our students about growing their own culinary herb garden. In 2003, my husband and I became sole owners. My focus is still on incorporating fresh herbs in your everyday cooking along with healthy menu strategies for the foods we prepare for everyday meals and special occasions. I continue to be the guest chef on FOX 13’s “Live at Eleven” news program each Thursday at 11 AM to Noon as well as offering private cooking classes at Kimball Distributing and demonstrations in the local Whole Foods stores. Starting this August, I will be teaching classes for the Lifelong Learning Program through the University of Utah. My husband Rich and I have 2 grown children and son-in-law who also enjoy creating memorable experiences in the kitchen and I consider myself a bon vivant- passionate about eating, creating, cooking and entertaining. Eat Well! |
